DNAinfo has more details on Pride, Forest Hills’ very first gay bar slated to open at 70-15 Austin Street next week. The owner, who also owns Corfu Grill nearby, says the space will be upscale, play loud music, offer weekend brunch and possibly hookah. The bar, previously known as the lounge Common Space, has a large back patio that will open during the summer. Pride will also share a kitchen with Corfu Grill. The owner, Georgios Aspiotis, told DNAinfo he felt inspired to open the place after the legalization of gay marriage in New York and Christine Quinn’s recent run for mayor.

A Gay Bar Slated for Austin Street [Q’Stoner] GMAP
I lived in the hills for over 17 years the community has lots of different people! If any establishment is friendly to all & make people feel welcome that is what really matters. We welcome pride w/ open arms and will support our local businesses. For those that have only negative feedback find a different place. It is a beautiful community, easy to get w/many means of w/transportation. Welcome to the Hills & lots of success to you!!! One who loves all people not what their sexual preferences may be.
It’s nice to welcome a new business to FH, but the last thing needed is yet another bar, especially one geared towards a population that doesn’t really exist in the neighborhood. FH has a largely increasing Asian presence, it would make more sense to have opened an authentic Asian restaurant here instead.
Good lord, that’s an ugly logo. Even the gays here have no style!
On another note, did anyone living in FH notice all the police activity throughout the neighborhood tonight 10/17/13? There are cops all around, I saw groups of them at various corners. I should’ve asked what’s going on, but was in a rush to get home. Also, there was a very loud noise almost like an explosion around 3 am last night. Have no idea what that was either. Curious if anyone here knows anything about this?
Crime has risen in FH as of late. Just today a jewelry store on 71st Ave was burglarized.
Just so we’re all clear, you can’t have a gay bar in this city anymore than you can have a “white bar” or “black bar.”
I’m sure the bar is just gay-friendly and doesn’t intend to discriminate against straights though.
True! But most hetero folk will not be too inclined to come to this bar anyway, unless accompanied by a gay friend. I wish the owner luck and success, but I don’t think there is a much of a gay population in FH. I know there are several popular gay bars in Jackson Heights though.
There are actually a lot more gay people living in Forest Hills than there were just a few years ago. I’ve lived in Forest Hills for 10 years and when I first moved here, I never saw any gay people in the neighborhood. But in the last two years, I’ve noticed many more gay people (and especially gay couples) in the neighborhood. And Forest Hills is also a subway hub so this new bar could also draw people from many other areas of Queens.
After 11 pmon weeknights there is a bad element on Austin St.-mostly coming from some of the bars like 5 Burro Cafe which, most of the time, has a nice local crowd, I can see some trouble developing.
