This is an over-the-top rental, distinctive in everything from its exterior to its whopping price tag. It sits at 10 Polhemus Place in Park Slope, at the center of a trio of eclectic limestones that our resident historian Suzanne Spellen called “one of the most interesting groups of turn-of-the-century houses in the Slope.”
The bays, oriels, balconies and carved ornamentation on the front are matched by a load of original detail within, including mahogany woodwork, inlaid floors, fireplace mantels, stained glass and a wainscoted center staircase.
It’s all been renovated and restored by the Aussie firm Dixon, which bought it several years ago and put it up for lease in January.
At nearly 4,000 square feet it’s a giant home, with three outdoor spaces: a parlor-level deck, a rooftop terrace off the top floor and a backyard.
It’s got four huge bedrooms, including two master suites with walk-in closets and en suite baths. (Note the awesome mahogany window seat in the front one.)
It’s got a new kitchen with a Viking range, Sub-Zero fridge, loads of cabinet space and Carrara marble countertops. On the garden floor below is a wet bar with an additional refrigerator and dishwasher, a wine fridge, and more of that white marble.
There’s also a washer and dryer down there — with a second set on the top floor. Like we said, over-the-top.
Listed by Joshua Carney of Dixon, the house came on the market in January at $17,485 a month — after about five weeks it went up nearly $1,000, to $18,450, where it stands now.
A considerable sum, and the question of who might want to spend well over $200,000 a year for a transient home applies. But Dixon clearly figures someone will. What do you think?
