lincoln park‘Tis the season of historic house tours and if you feel like spreading your wings a little on Sunday, this looks like a goodie: Lincoln Park, Jersey City’s best preserved historic neighborhood, is hosting a walking tour of a dozen or so buildings–a mix of private houses, apartment buildings and religious buildings. Guided tours leave from Temple Beth El (walkable from Journal Square Path) at the corner of Harrison and Kennedy at 12:30, 2 and 3 pm. Tix are $25 and should be purchased ahead of time.     I’m not sure if Van Vorst still does a tour. That was probably a scary place 25 years ago, but what was bought for under $100k then is now 6 figures of course. I’m biased because I live here, but I prefer the housing stock near Lincoln Park because of the diversity of types. It’s probably closer to what I imagine Victorian Flatbush to be, versus a downtown JC neighborhood like Van Vorst which is all brownstones/rowhouses.

  2. Very interesting–I haven’t heard about any tours in Jersey City for many years, although IIRC I went on a house tour in Van Vorst Park about 25 years ago.If I weren’t working on the Prospect Lefferts Gardens tour this Sunday I’d go on this one
