A Downtown Brooklyn-based tipster sent the above photo of the Avalon’s Willoughby West site, between Bridge and Duffield streets. It’s now a huge empty lot and, as our tipster says, “an empty hole waiting to be built upon.” It’s been a long process to get to this point: Avalon spent around $100 million buying up eleven buildings on this corner. Demolition started up at the beginning of this year. A 57-story, 861-unit rental tower is going up at this site, although the developers have not released updated plans or renderings. Construction should last at least through 2014.
