StreetArtNYC published an interesting interview with Joseph Ficalora, the curator of Bushwick Five Points, which lies near the border between Brooklyn and Queens, about a block away from Ridgewood (Cypress Street is the border between Bushwick and Ridgewood). It’s called Five Points because five streets meet at one point (not to be confused with LIC’s 5 Pointz).

Bushwick Five Points is an outdoor gallery of sorts along the walls of Scott Avenue, Troutman Street, and St. Nicholas Avenue. In the article there are a lot of really great photos of the artwork. And you might be wondering how Ficalora has gotten access to the walls on which to create the art. Here’s the answer:

“Some are family-owned and others I’ve negotiated with their owners. Once these building owners see a finished wall, it is not difficult for them to recognize that the artwork surfacing here is far more appealing than random tags and unspeakable words!”

Check it out and also learn a little about Ficalora himself, who was born and bred in this part of Bushwick.
