Adding moulding around door frame

I am looking to extend the existing moulding around an indoor doorframe in our brownstone. Where could I find something like this, or get it made?

if this is paint grade, order something from flex molding in Fletcher NC. even if it is straight. cheaper than cutting knives

there had been a flex molding company in Jersey City but sadly they folded a couple of years ago now.

if this is stain grade, i am afraid you might have to have knives cut. if you were to send me a photo of he profile, i can look at the size not of the wood but of the profile and tell you if it can be done on a router or shaper which more people have in their shops than they would molding machines.

for anyone reading this who might know someone who can use it, i have a Molder/shaper head and some knives for sale. it is a Charles Schmidt head (as well as knives)

About 10 years ago a local carpenter replaced the moulding around all my front windows. IIRC he used Adriatic and another company to duplicate the original profile. The company with the best price on straight moulding (Adriatic, I think) couldn’t make the curved moulding for the upper part of my top floor windows. I had a choice of oak or mahogany (probably actually sapele) and chose the latter, in the hope that it would outlast the softwood original which started to deteriorate after only 100 years. I don’t remember the cost, but it was much less than I expected.

adriatic can make a match. but it is pricey. they have to make the knives. many of the wood shops (my former one included) send out to adriatic. some of us have (or had) shapers for smaller moldings. some large moldings with a profile on the edge can even be done on a router and custom router bits can be had on line. or you could get lucky and it could match something someone has-

Dyke’s Lumber and Adriatic have a wide variety of moldings. In addition, if you need something to precisely match and they don’t have it, you can go to any wood shop and have it made for you. Because I work for Brownstoner I can’t recommend specific wood shops but there are a great many in Brooklyn and Queens and many of our readers have used them with good results, so hopefully someone can recommend a few.
