Garbage Bins Have Not Arrived
We ordered the NYC garbage bins a long time ago to comply with the law that went into effect this week but the bins have not even shipped yet and have not arrived. The fines are supposed to start this week (and they are severe). Have other people also had trouble procuring bins? We can see only a couple of people on our street have them. (We are already composting, so at least food waste is in a secure brown bin.)

The city has extended the deadline for this requirement because of the long wait times for the orders to be filled. For the record, some who have received the new bins say that its not a good deterrent for rats and have posted the city bins with rat holes in them.

I’m also holding off on ordering the new garbage bin until next year, in case there’s a change, I’m currently usimg one that’s similar to the NYC bin, but I guess I’ll need to replace it thenI’ll use my old bins for recycling as long as they last and, possibly, order the non-mandatory official ones when I need a replacement

Do you remember when you placed your order? I think there have been lots of complaints about this because if you placed your order after October 1 then it will be fulfilled on a rolling basis. So, no guaranteed arrival time it seems.

We are not planning to order them until late this year or early 2026. Howerver, we have old bins to use. I did see the NYC officials bins sold in Home Depot in Maspeth Queens, maybe you can check if there are any available in the sorounding stores. Otherwise, you will probably need to buy the most inexpensive trash bins or maybe someone is selling their old ones for a very low price if they have them in excess? Our Rubbermaid bins are over 20 years old and they will probably last forever.

My friend also is going through the same issue, ordered some garbage bins some time ago but no updates so far. He only seen some folks have them but majority of his neighborhood doesn’t have them.
