Hi – following up on an earlier post re skylights, I’m trying to understand the code requirements for glazing of skylights over shafts and stairwells. The code reads “(2) GLAZING. –
\na. Skylights over stairways and shafts. – Skylights
\nplaced over stairways and shafts shall be glazed with
\nplain glass not more than one-eighth inch thick or
\nunreinforced plastic not more than three-sixteenths of
\nan inch thick.”. <\/p>\n
I have two single-pane pyramid skylights there and want to replace them ideally with fixed, flat double-paned glass ones. The original venting uses are probably not as important anymore, but I don’t understand whether the code prohibits the installation of those ones. Can anyone help me understand what’s allowed?
