After having gotten lots of advice from this forum here’s what I ended up doing:
\nFor various reasons we had to have all metal. Scott Schnall did the drawings and got all the permits, and I found him easy to work with and responsive. To build the deck I got about 5 bids, and used Lopopolo Iron ((718) 339-0572). They were by far the least expensive and were fantastic. Joe spent time with me, listened to what I wanted, came up with some ideas. The men who did the work were nice, efficient, very competent, and cleaned up. There were a couple of details that bothered me after the job was done, and they have been completely responsive about coming to touch up. Yay!
