We had a plumber come in and they discovered that the toilet had been installed incorrectly (no seal and not bolted correctly to the floor).  They did their best to patch it up but warned us that there might be additional damage that we would need to fix over time.  Unfortunately, the smell is still there.<\/p>\n<p>We called the plumbers again and they said that the toilet may need to be replaced, as it could have some sort of break inside. They also said that if the new toilet doesn&#8217;t solve the problem, then they would need to check the pipes to see if something has rotted or broken.  To do this, they would need to open up walls to figure it out. They could make the holes but we would need a contractor to close them.<\/p>\n<p>Our bathroom was cheaply renovated prior to us purchasing the house.
