OK, as a follow-up to my previous underground gas-line questions, we’ve decided to go with the mill-wrapped pipe (thanks Master Plvmber!). But after calling a bunch of Brooklyn plumbing supply stores I’m beginning to think it doesn’t exist. Anyone know where to find 30′ of the stuff ASAP?

  1. Mom,

Yeah, I was a bit much. Sorry. But don’t scrap it. We had an above ground natural gas pipe in the home in Brooklyn where I grew up. It’s still there and in great shape. Maybe that’s an option?

  2. Thank you for the thoughtful, not at all condescending advice, and especially for the assumptions made. That’s always helpful and appreciated in every situation. We’d already decided to scrap this part of the backyard reno before reading this, for many of the same reasons you so eloquently mentioned. We will be getting our grill heat from propane like everyone else in Brooklyn.

  3. Mom,

You pay peanuts you get monkeys.

And now you are dealing with a monkey who is going to pipe natural gas into your basement (at no extra charge)when his gas line leaks due to condensation build-up in his Rube Goldberg time bomb. Fantastic. Tell the brain surgeon to read the code. If he had ever done underground pipe he would know what to use and his price would have reflected that. Of course then, you probably wouldn’t have hired him.

Sorry to talk to you like this Mom. You know I love you and since Mother’s Day is coming here is a little way to say thanks for always being there (although in a few years BOOM you might not be).

  4. My guess is because just like every other project undertaken in the last two years, Jock, it’s been awarded to the absolute lowest bidder.
