Hi all, just got my tree planted by the Million Trees city project. Does anyone know if the city also provides guards, or if that’s the owner’s obligation? Also, if anyone has any recommendations, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

  1. how did you get the tree?? we’ve tried calling 311–they keep saying they will send us a form, but nothing ever happens. advice? thank you.

  2. The city does provides the guard but it should be out of your premises something public. You can contact the respective department on you Municipal Corporation.

  3. Thanks for the responses. Arkady, mine have the stantions too, with a label that I’ve gotten an English oak. My block association is having a planting party tomorrow so I’ll be sure to ask the organizer about it (her own house has been voted Best of the Block for years, she must have that kinda info!).

Slopegirl, I also checked a few places and got the same rate, $400. As a renter just looking to spruce up my view, I’m willing to work with the owner, but I want to have all my t’s crossed when I mention this to him.

  4. there was just a rec for an ironworker on here… we had iron fence replaced around my mom’s tree pit a few years back, cost about $400. the nice thing about a fence is keeps the dog pee somewhat at bay.

  5. Mine was planted last fall w/ 2 stanchions: one either side. The Parks people said someone would come around in the spring to remove the supports & put in Belgian block around the perimeter of the pit. It hasn’t happened yet.
