I’m going to hire someone to demolish and remove my concrete backyard. Do I need to leave a certain amount around the foundation? Of course this complicates it as they will have to use a concrete saw. There is one drain, should I try to keep it? Or will I no longer need it?

  1. Thanks for all the advice. Right now all the water goes into the drain (connected to waste pipe). The problem aesthetically is that I have an L-shaped backyard so I would have to leave concrete around the whole house not just where the drain is which is at the back (guess this is just what I am going to have to do). The yard is prob. about 200 sq ft.

  2. we removed cement and laid brick over sand for about 2 feet from the building, sloping away from foundation, and this worked fine. we had an engineer look at it for about $300, but his advice was pretty simple. I’d think the drain would be good to have, but depends where it is in the new landscape.

  3. when I removed the concrete from my yard, I left a 10-foot buffer from the back wall, and left the drain intact. No foundation problems so far. How deep is the yard?
