Does anybody know offhand the difference in cost between basic single-sided stockade cedar fencing and 2-sided, looks-good-on-both-sides fence? We’re finally getting a fence and at first thought we should get single-sided. But now we’re thinking we might want the fancier stuff. How much more will this run us?

I know the labor costs will be slightly different but I’m looking for basic, panel-for-panel prices, if that’s any help.

  1. Hi! According to my opinion, Wood fencing systems give homeowners the most design flexibility and affordability. Unless you’re planning an up market splurge with, say, cedar fencing, you can comfortably incorporate structural pressure treated fencing posts with 2-sides stained or paint finished wood uprights or even wood panels. With 2-sided wood fencing, you’ll pay about 20% more for that good-neighbor seal of approval. Also, you’ll be cleaning, staining and maintaining your wood fencing system each year for as long as you’re located in your current home.

  2. we have often installed Tongue and Groove Cedar fencing in panel sections that are great looking on both sides, the added advantage of this good neighbor fence design, is that both homeowners can share the costs for the design/construct and installation if an agreement takes place.

you should pay close attention to what material grade you will purchase, many of the prefab stockade cedar fences are of lower grade knotty cedar even other design type fences, if your thinking of purchasing prefab panels it wouldn’t hurt to get a quote for custom built panels in western red (clear Cedar) even a higher grade of knotty cedar, that will help you decide what your best option is in terms of cost vs quality.
