It is that time of year and I need to clean all the tree crud off my paver brick patio. It is under a massive, old Norway maple which produces more tree waste than you can imagine. The net result of the winter, leaves, tree branches, etc. is a stained patio. Also, the concrete in the front of the house is also dirty and stained by more tree stuff in the front. I would rather not pay up for a power washer. I am wondering if anyone here has experience with a rental. The other alternative is a service which is not too expensive which could just come in, blast away and clean up the mess. Does anyone have recommendations? Thanks very much for your help.

  1. Thanks, brownstoners. I decided to buy one. I would like a really strong, gas powered one, but they are too expensive (and I am told they are high maintenance too) so I will buy a 1900 PSI electric one. I appreciate your info!

  2. As others said, buying is more cost effective. I’ve used my 1800psi electric power washer to clean my sidewalk, brick patio, garden furniture, etc. and it’s done a good job. The electrics last only two or three years before they break (I’m on my third) but it’s still cheaper than renting.

  3. I rented washer once for $75 and then bough cheap one for $100. Trust me the second approach is much better. It is a bit slower and not as powerful. But it is adequate to clean wood and concrete. You will have less stress to return it on time. Save time and money and can clean whatever you want whenever you want.

  4. HM…..GCDad, that makes a good argument for buying one. Do you remember the PSI and is it electric (get the impression that the more powerful ones use gas — the stained bricks are tough work)…

    Thanks.

  5. I bought a bottom of the line power washer from Lowes last year for about $100 and it made my 7 year old wood deck look like new. Blasted greenish much off concrete as well. Washes the car well too. Rental was $75.
