I heard the Liberty Sunset Garden Center in Red Hook was having a going out of business sale in the month of March. Too bad, it was a great place. Does anybody know, it is now closed? The phone has been disconnected.

  1. They’ve relocated a few blocks nearby. They have three lots on Van Brunt and Coffey I believe. Not nearly as much a space as before, but they seem to be working hard to get it all prettified for the planting season.

  2. i went to the sale. fairly chaotic as you would expect for a liquidation. and most of the perennials are dormant still and unlabeled so tricky to sort through. i got the impression they had to be out of there SOON. thanks to the helpful volunteers.

  3. So sorry to hear this, even though it is true the customer service was terrible. Always was fun to hang out on the water and check out all the plants.

Does anyone know who will take over the space?

  4. went to the sale and was disappointed in service and prices (it is a sale- sell it like you mean it. Also, very confusingly set up.

  5. I’m not actually all that surprised. I am kind of a garden center addict, and they seemed to have a really good selection, but I was really put off by trying to shop at this place. It was always kind of an ordeal with no staff to be found, stock in disarray, and general not-making-it-easy-for-the-customer-itis.

  6. Man, I was bummed to read this. It was a great place. A quick google search turned this up (which bummed me out even more–closing sale was last weekend!):

Sadly, this 8,000-square-foot gardener’s haven in Red Hook is closing “due to economic conditions beyond their control.” So this Saturday (Mar 26) and Sunday (Mar 27), from 9am to 6pm, a 50% off clearance sale will be held on all their exotic plants (from five-inch potted ferns, $10, to fruit-bearing lemon trees, $100+), soil, containers, furniture and more. Cash only.
