Can This Old Fence/Wall Be Used?
Along the back of our yard there is an old stone wall with cement posts every 10 feet or so (I have 2 on my property). The wall is about 2 feet tall and the posts are about 3′ on top of that. Does anybody know what kind of fencing may have originally been used…

Does anybody know what kind of fencing may have originally been used with these posts? I would love to utilize this old wall for a new fence but am not sure if it’s feasible. Does anybody have something like this they’ve built back up?
Sorry I can’t help you with your question- and I’m about to hijack your post! Can you id the plants in your pic? It looks like there might be more than one vine there? Is it just ivy or something more? Looks lovely. Thanks.

wire/chain might have been what was here, if you look 6″ down from top of pictured pier there’s a little metal post sticking out with some washers (?) on it. That might have been an attachment point, plus I think I’ve seen fences like this elsewhere. I might look into the carpenter route, I should would like to use it, one of the few things around here built to last.
you know, I randomly just saw one like this with a chain (not chain-link fencing but actual heavy chain) hooked to the cement posts. you could use rope to create the same look for decorative purposes.
I wonder if it was heavy wire. Are there any type of connectors on the sides of the cement posts? The heavy wire fence at the top would then be covered with vines like you have on the chain link. Nice look.
I’d get a carpenter to design a wooden fence to span the posts. Maybe it could be arched (since you can go up 1 ft) between the posts.
