My stacked washer/gas dryer is now in need of a 2nd repair. I am thinking of buying an all-in-one washer/dryer to save some space. Is there anything special I need to have done if I am no longer going to use the gas line to the dryer? I would rather know up front what I should be looking to have done. Thank you.

  1. Don’t do it!! My girlfriend and I bought one of these last year and our clothes NEVER dried properly. Thankfully we bought it off Amazon and they paid for return shipping.

  2. I thought I might try a combination washer/dryer but got completely scared off by the reviews. Cited were extremely lengthy drying times and wrinkly clothes. Separate units sound much better.

  3. It is also possible to get a stackable electric set, there are plenty on the market, we have a Bosch Axxis set, front loading washing machine, electric condensing dryer stacked on top. It takes considerably less time to dry a load in a dedicated dryer than in a washer/dryer. Usually the drying cycle of a washer dryer is rated at half that of the washer, so you can wash 10 lbs of laundry, but it is rated to dry 5 lbs. Our dryer requires 230 volts.

  4. Can’t tell you what you would need to have done but it will take you probably two, if not three, cycles to dry your clothes. Something to consider.

  5. Make sure you know how much time a load takes. We have one at my place of work, and I kid you not, it takes about 3-6 hours to do a regular wash. It’s a LG Tromm, about 2 years old and its the worst!

Regarding the gas line though, you just need it sealed and capped if you are not longer going to use it. You could do it yourself or have an experienced handyman do it if you aren’t comfortable.
