I want to apply to Landmarks to replace the very old windows of the façade. I want to use Pella Architect Series, the profile is very elegant and matches the ones that originally were there. What is the fastest/safest way to obtain the permit? I am doing something pretty standard and using a window that has already been approved before by Landmarks. Any advise? Thanks! I am concerned that the application will take a lot of time and the windows need 5 weeks to be delivered.

  1. Just because the windows have been approved before doesn’t mean they will be approved for your application. When we did our windows Landmarks had us recreate the exact trim the house had originally. This included window shapes etc…

  2. we submitted our LPC application using Marvin’s drawings – it took about 5 weeks to get the permit, so the timing, in terms of window delivery, was pretty seamless.

  3. One assumes you’ve seen the LPC rulebook (because that’s where your illustration came from). Rulebook (Windows, Chapter 3): http://bit.ly/fPW1SF

The fastest/safest way? Have your window company submit the necessary permit application and documentation. Make sure your window company is reputable, that they’re familiar with the application process and that, as a business, they are expedient and reliable in general. Purchase windows only after receiving LPC approval.

  4. If you know these windows have been approved before, you should be in good shape. Submit Pella’s drawings with your app. FYI, Landmarks is not allowed to take forever to approve window replacements.
