Our house (1909) still has the original wood windows, plus butt-ugly white storms some genius installed back in the 70s. The original windows are in surprisingly decent shape and I don’t want to replace them, but they are still drafty and noisy, and I believe they could be restored and improved. However, I am having trouble finding someone who specializes in this type of work – the one person I found said “I don’t work in Brooklyn any more, those people are crazy.” (Cheers!) If you would care to contact us we would be happy to look at your project. I will be in NYC the 8th and 9th of April if you get this in the next 24 hours. Feel free to contact me at 518-322-8444 or wanderingwoodworks@yahoo.com
I’ve worked with http://www.femenellaassociates.com/index.htm and http://rivertonrestorationandmillwork.com/website/. These were bigger jobs, but work is still so scarce, they might take on a small job or know someone else who would.
The Nation Trust for Historic Preservation has a list of window restoration specialist. Check their website.
