Anyone have a recommendation for someone to do some “spring cleaning” of our backyard? We just moved in, so we don’t know what a lot of the VERY UNRULY shrubs are or how to care for them. We’d ideally like to have someone come to get them looking nice for the growing season and tell us how to maintain them.

  1. Hi there. I own a landscape design/maintenance company and we work mainly in Brooklyn and Manhattan. We do spring cleanups as well and general maintenance. Feel free to check out our website at http://www.newecolandscapes.com and feel free to call or e-mail with any questions. Good luck!

  2. Try Graziella DiNunzio (great name, no ?) 718-422-0917. She local or check the other posts here. Lots of recommendations.

Almost anything can be pruned in the spring…if not now then right after they flower (ie Azaleas, Forsythia, Lilacs.)

So you have any idea you have in your back yard ?

  3. Not sure who advises, maybe just a gardener? Usually it’s best not to prune in the spring but the fall, so the shrubs will flower (depends on the type of shrub). But you could do a little light maintenance now or around April 15 to May 15, when the growing season starts. If you have a local mom n pop nursery such as Kings County Nursery, they may be able to suggest someone. (Actually I think Kings might have a garden service.)
