Can someone share their experience having a roof with asbestos removed? Also looking for recommendations for reasonably priced contractor to do the work.

Thanks!

  1. When it comes to removing asbestos no one seems to be reasonable. I’d say that many old flat roofs on brownstones have asbestos and most are removed and discarded with no care for asbestos. Not saying that’s the right way to do things but…

  2. Make sure the person you hire is licensed to do this. Joseph Maffucci of Certified Asbestos Removal Corp. is. (718) 331-4160 He can test it for you too.

  3. Yes, the roofing tar paper tested positive for chrysotile asbestos. We are looking for a recommendation from someone with prior personal experience. Thanks for the reference Arkady.

  4. Minard – The roof on my boyfriend’s place on 11th St. had asbestos under 2 or 3 layers of tarpaper.
Joe Bova – 718 234 7437 is very helpful about what to do & who can do it.

  5. roof with asbestos?
You mean asbestos in the roofing tar?
where have you been told there is asbestos?

In any case, you need a certified abatement contractor to remove all the material and properly bag it and dispose of it. I have never heard of asbestos in a roof, but back in the 50’s and 60’s they thought it was a miracle material and they used it everywhere.
