I recently had a terrible experience with Farrow and Ball paint and need suggestions for better interior paint. The Farrow and Ball paint had a nice selection of colors but chips if you look at it wrong. What good quality interior paint works well in brownstone interiors? Thanks

  1. Ben Moore. Check out the historic color (HC) selection.

I have used some Pittburgh Paints and been happy with them, but I think that was more for trim work. I am not sure about using their product on walls. I do think they have a very good reputation though.

Also, I second what Mopar says, I have used Ball and Farrow and it is a very, very good product. Something else must be wrong. (Even though I have used Ball and Farrow, I don’t recommend it because I am finding that by “going green” people prefer not to use product that has been shipped long distances; Ben Moore is shipped from NJ).

  2. Just painted our whole house with BM Aura and we were very happy with it. Our painter also really liked the stuff and was impressed with how well it went on the walls…even light colors over old dark colors just needed one coat.

  3. I am shocked. I have used both brands with great results. Could something else be happening? For example, did you paint flat latex over oil-based gloss without sanding or priming? Is there a moisture problem? Did the walls need skimcoating and you didn’t use the mesh tape?

  4. To clarify, it is possible to reproduce any color from any other paint retailer. Just bring a chip and the retailer can match it with Benjamin Moore.
