Hi, I’m looking for information on Kingsview Coops. They are really nice and big and pretty affordable for the size. The bathroom seems kind of small, though and the elevators were a bit slow. I searched a couple of posts, but they are from a while ago. What is it like there now? Is it family oriented or party central? How is to walk from Metrotech to the Coops at night?
Thanks!

  1. I subletted there several years ago. POSITIVES: The complex is VERY security conscious; the landscaping is nice; some of the views over Fort Greene Park are lovely; the apartments are quite large (and a perfect match for fans of mid-century modern furniture); the hallways are lick-the-floor spotless; it is the opposite of party central; the location is great for the subways and the amenities of Fort Greene.

NEGATIVES: Myrtle Ave is noisy, especially in summer; the projects are noisy (gunfire play — but maybe less so these days), especially in summer; food shopping not so great but should improve as new retailers move onto Myrtle; the coop board is predominantly super old-school church ladies and they definitely employ an unspoken quota system — which could be fine, unless you are part of the fairer-skinned population.

  2. All I’ve heard is quite positive. A friend bought a small coop there a couple years ago and is very happy. The buildings seem to be well-maintained. I have seen no indications (on my few visits) of it being party central. He frequently walks home through MetroTech at all hours of the night.
