I am in the process of researching costs to renovate the entire exterior of a frame house. Currently there is no cornice and I would like to add one. Is there anyone who can generally say how much something like this would cost? I just would like to know how much to budget, so if anyone can tell me how much this would be at-the-low and refer me to any businesses that might be able to help with this project it would be great! Thank you!

  1. Costs can vary greatly based on if it is in a landmark district or not, what kind of moldings, porches, etc does it/did it have. I have done 3 over the years. $10,000 for the whole front, 3 sty, was the cheapest, $85,000 for one I am starting now, 4 sty, in a landmark district that we still do not have a final permit for after working with them (Landmarks) for over a year.
All have been with ceder clapboard siding.
Who ever you choose to do it, make sure to go and look at work that they did a few years ago, how has it stood up to a few winters?

  2. the cornice part of our overall facade re-do was around 5K. We had one, but it was not viable once it was taken down. They reconstructed the entire cornice from tracing each of the parts. If you don’t have one, your reno company will have some stock templates they can manufatcture one from- from jobs they’ve done in the past.

Good luck- it’ll make a huge difference in the way your house looks.
