Do I need a repairman to clean stove burners?
Sorry if this is an embarrassingly dumb question. Sorry if this is an embarrassingly dumb question. I haven’t bothered with one non-working gas burner on my stove, but I recently have a problem with baking soda spilling on another one and hardening there. I thought wetting it would get it off, but it didn’t. I’m worrying slightly about gas seeping through but not fully lighting when the burner is on. Do I have to spend all that money on an appliance repair guy to clean it? If so, recommendations are welcome.
If you haven’t solved it yet, try a little vinegar on a Q-tip to dissolve the baking soda. It will bubble and soften it and then you can wipe it.
I hope I was clear, that the baking soda spilled over what I’d call the actual burner – where the flame comes out of. If that can be removed, it’s news to me. Does it pull off?
But, yes, I did try scraping with a knife. A tiny bit came off the top, but the part that worries me is the side where the flame comes, because that’s perforated holes all along the side, where the knife can’t reach.
And, yes, I took a wet paper towel with an all-purpose soap liquid, which I thought would dissolve what was on the top. Not at all. And I’m a little leery of putting something wet around where the flame would be.
Sorry I seem like such a wimpy nitwit on this, but I’ve never been able to find a decent appliance repair guy, and they all seem to start at about $100 an hour, anyway.
You should be able to take the burner off the stove, soak it & scrub it & put it back.
Not sure I fully understand the exact problem, but as I’m imagining it the two things I would try are:
1. soaking–put a rag/papertowels soaked in a cleaner (whatever all-purpose/counter cleaner you use) on the mess and let it just sit for a while. I found pretty much nothing cooked on that this method doesn’t remove.
2.have you tried a butter knife to gently scrape it off (possibly after soaking)?
As for the non-working burner, we had one of those. The stove was still under a service contract so we had a guy come out and he took it apart and cleaned a tiny spot we never would have figured out as the problem and now the burner works. In our case that little clogged hole was the problem.
