A chimney cleaning company (Top Sweep, Inc) called me out of the blue to clean my chimneys. My house was gut renovated a little over a year ago before I purchased it.

Do you think it’s necessary to have a chimney cleaning so soon? We have gas heat, no fireplaces and only one chimney.

Has anyone had dealings with this company? Thx.

  1. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that chimneys, fireplaces, and vents should be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary. And in case to clean your chimney from unknown company, please don’t do this.you can visit to

  2. Any chimney company’s selling stuff door to door or from calling you is a scheme. The other way you can point them out is a cleaning always under $200 then they come in and break a piece of clay pipe off your chimney and con you into a liner and alot of them are giving out fake dvd’s when they come in to scan your chimney flue.

  3. They often call homeowners who purchased their house within the past year and say they’d worked on the chimney for the previous owner (which doesn’t explain how they got your number).

  4. Chimney companies that cold call are some of the worst scammers. Some say “we were working at your neighbor’s house…” and drop a name of someone on your block. If you let them in they’ll vacuum the chimney and then try to scare you about carbon monoxide and sell you some expensive job you don’t need.

Gas heat, no fireplaces, you need your chimney cleaned about once a century.
