Hi,
This may sound crazy, but I’m moving from Dean and Carlton to Bergen and Vanderbilt (literally one block over and one block up), and I only have a queen-sized mattress and boxspring to move, plus a few suitcases and maybe a box or two.
It doesn’t seem worth it for me to hire a whole truck and moving company. Can anyone recommend an affordable, reliable alternative? A trustworthy person with a van who can help?
If so, happy to discuss a generous price.
Call someone like Movers Not Shakers and at least get an estimate. There’s no reason to assume they can’t send someone over.
Also: there used to always be guys with vans hanging out at the Salvation Army on Quincy. Walk over there and tell them the score.
My name is Jim and I’ve been doing small moves like these in NY for 4 years now. I live in Greenpoint, so I know exactly where you’re moving from and where to.
My rates are:
$45/hr 1 man
$75/hr 2 men
Give me a call about times and date, and I’d love to help you out. Take care!

I 2nd the call paul to haul recommendation
From Brooklynian:
“$40 for a few items, $60 for a van full. 347 439-5297 for details.”
I’ve used this for picking some big craigslist stuff and was very pleased. Very clean, spacious van and on time. Several friends have used him as well and all were pleased. Nice guy(s).
Call Paul to Haul—excellent service, reasonable price: http://bit.ly/9suh3l
I you drive, you might get one of those hour-rentals from Home Depot & pick up a casual laborer there too.
