Lumber store?
Any recommendations for a lumber store that will fill a small order for my DIY project? I need 2 sheets of sanded 3/4″ birch plywood (4’x8′), cut into long planks and delivered to my apartment. I used to go to Sid’s for these kinds of projects, but seems they’ve changed their business. I know Home…
I know Home Depot/Lowes would have this, but I’m usually disappointed by the quality of their wood and cutting. Thank you.
i see you got your answer but i would have seconded or thirded Dykes too… the guys there are very helpful
Thank you for the suggestions! The guy at Dykes said they could cut and delivery it as I needed, and it turns out it’s cheaper than what Bruno’s quoted.
“Dykes will not rip the wood down”
Can you talk about ripping plywood? Isn’t ripping cutting along the grain, not a factor here?
If you are in Brooklyn Heights, Bruno’s Hardware will cut the birch plywood for you.
Dykes has no table saw. They are very nice about their radial arm saw though.
Dykes will not rip the wood down; I don’t think they have a table saw nor do they have a panel saw.
Home Depot’s birch has been a little better of late; I think they are now getting it from Canada. In so far as cutting, if their panel saw is off, it will be a problem.
Sometimes when I don’t feel like cutting plywood down, i go to Metropolitan Lumber, but they are in Astoria.
You can get a skil saw and chaulk line and rip these down yourself. You will be pleasantly suprised at how straight you will be able to get them.

Yeah, Dyke’s should do it. Tell them exactly what you want and they will just charge you for it. I do not think they will sand it though.
I’m usually very happy w/ Dyke’s Lumber, off 3rd Ave.
Nice people, and big or small job, they always take care of my needs.
