I got a call “about National Grid” last week and supposedly saving 10% on my bill that sounded like one of these. And an incomprehensible call from a guy with a heavy Indian accent a month ago supposedly from ConEd about saving 30% on my bill, asking for account numbers etc.
Be wary.
They are also canvasing by phone.
My wife answered the other day and handed off to me thinking they said they were “Con Ed”. Only after a lengthy but subtle sales pitch and connection to a third-party “verifier” did I realize what they were hawking and I said NO THANK YOU and told them I found their methods to be deceptive.
There are probably virtues to choosing your supplier(s) but do it from a full menu rather than a sales call.
