My wife and I are in the home stretch of our renovation, but we’re looking for someone who has worked on antique door hardware (installed and tinkered with) to fit some mercury-glass sets on our entry and bathroom doors. The doors have the larger diameter holes drilled through — so we’d need those filled, re-driled and have the the mortise locks, knobs, and strikes installed. We also have an assortment of the metal pins, but some of the threads might be stripped… Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. There’s a guy who works for Roy (NY Old Iron, in the Lowes parking lot on 9th St. nr. 2nd Ave.) who’s good with old locks. Fifth Ave. Key Shop on 9th St. near 4th Ave. (718-768-8643) is a reliable, honest locksmith with at least one person on staff who is good with old locks. Can’t speak from experience whether I would rely on either of them to do the woodwork properly. For that, maybe try Steve from Tinker’s Wagon who posts here sometimes: http://bit.ly/gIYoOq
