Has anyone actually put in one of these? I’d like a tub with bubbles but am creeped out by the older jacuzzis because of how the water sits in the system. I’m wondering if the reality will just be that they are ugly, plastic, loud, and hard to climb into for daily showers just for the sake of the occasional nice soak.

Any opinions on them in general? Experience with particular brands?

  1. I’m with several folks here. I put in a six foot Jacuzzi seven years ago and have used it less than seven times. What torques me about it most is that I had to rearrange the bathroom layout sub-optimally to accommodate that beast.

Before you buy one, try one out. If I had I’d have a much nicer bathroom today. Live and learn.

  2. Took out a 6″ jacuzzi tub in favor of a simple deep soaking tub. Cleaner, safer, cheaper, etc, etc, etc. Quieter, too. Book hotels w jacuzzis when traveling. But bath salts in a non-air tub and enjoy how clean it is.

  3. I’ve had them in 2 different houses (both were already there when I moved in).

In the 8 years I lived there, the jets probably got used a dozen times between myself, my wife, and guests.

The older of the 2 had some strange coloration around the jets that was stained in.

  4. we have a kohler air tub bubbles are good no nasty bacteria in the tub. Extra long which is fine for my 6’2″ son but for me 5″1″ i keep sliding down felt as if on a sliding board. Also its not deep enough. My husband insisted on it never uses it,I do . I still would rather have had an old deep cast iron tub. But bubbles are good but noisy

  5. We just purchased a Bain Ultra air tub for our remodel. It is the Amma oval 72. We paid about 2600. A local showroom gave us the contractor price. It really is a pretty tub. We liked the simplicity and look of the integrated arm rests and the built-in grab bars for when we get old. The clean aspect sold us, no old water sits in pipes.

  6. I have two built-in jacuzzi tubs in my apartment, one of which has never been used in seven years and the other is probably used 2-3 times per year. Nevertheless, as someone with a bad back, it is worth having one for those 2-3 times per year.

We just put a Serenity free standing air bath in the master bath of our new construction weekend house. We only used it once, but it is solid, very attractive, and about as good as the jucuzzi without the residual water issues (most modern airbaths clean/purge the jets automatically 10 minutes or so after being turned off). Our blower is in the attic so it is relatively quiet.

  7. I put one in a few years back. Neither my wife nor I have ever used it. When the water drains out a fan comes on and blows out the water in the system so that is the way to go if you get scheved out. I do too.
