We are currently in the nightmare that is working with The Shade Store on our window treatments in one room. We had planned on ordering treatments for two other rooms from them, but after this bleak experience, there is no way.
Therefore, we are back at square one for the other rooms. Does anyone have recommendations? We are looking for a company that offers high quality treatments (roller shades or potentially roman shades) and that have a great selection of fabrics and excellent customer service.
Please any recommendations are MUCH appreciated.
Thank you!
If you are looking for something truly different you might want to consider Global Window Fashions Blinds Perth Company for all your window furnishings. They have motorized blinds and shutters Perth that is more popular as well as will be delighted to assist you with the installation.

I’ve pretty much had the same experience as DeLepp. We used The Shade Store for our entire apartment (Drapery and Roman Shades) with no problems. We were really impressed with the quick turnaround and quality.
Metropolitan Window Fashions on the UES/UWS. I called; they came and measured and brought samples for us to choose from; and then they came and did a great job installing. I’m sure they’re not the cheapest option but they carry Hunter Douglass and other good brands and the customer service seems really good.
I used Smith and Noble a few times with good results and good customer service. I even once sent something back to have a privacy liner added to it and they were great about it. I also used blinds.com with great service, too–i had a top down mechanism break on two year old shades once, too, and they sent me a replacement very quickly, no questions asked, and didn’t even ask me to send back the old one.
My experience with Smith + Noble was that if their vendor didnt mess up everything was great–nice shades, friendly and helpful customer service. It was only when they sent the wrong size (they built a shade that wasn’t the dimensions I ordered) that it turned into a very bad experience. I was shocked by how belligerent and rude they were. So yes, it makes sense that there are satisfied customers out there, but unfortunately they are not a company I would recommend or do business with in the future.
I had a good experience with Smith + Noble. Paid extra for someone to come take the measurements and, once the shades were fabricated and shipped, to come and install them. The shades are beautiful, and I have no complaints about the service. Custom shades will take time, however, that’s just part of the process.
Just don’t use Smith + Noble. They outsource production and seem to have little control over the process. If the vendor they use gets the order right you’re fine, but if not, it’s a huge inconvenient ordeal and customer service is rude and demanding.
Quick summary on Shade Store issues: Ordered roman shades for two windows in the same room. One came with valance. One without. The one without had to go back. They finally sent the one back (now with valance) and it was packaged so poorly there was a significant tear in the shade fabric from shipping. Granted, UPS is to blame here as well, but getting the Shade Store to resolve this has been painful to say the least. Still no resolution. We ordered these blinds on 9/22. Finally had one up as of mid-November. The second one, still damaged and not yet replaced. Shades should not take this long! And if you are looking for them to install – it takes forever to get an appointment. Basically, you have to plan a month out.
However, I will say the shades are beautiful. I just could not deal with their customer service again.
