The energy credit runs out Dec 31st- lots of explanations on websites state the windows need to be purchased and installed by that date- is that true? How do you prove when it was installed by? I’m going to do it myself, but I probably wouldn’t get to install it before the 31st, though I would buy it before then- anybody know anything more about this? Thanks!
As the tax credit only applies to the material portion of your purchase, I would tend to agree that the materials have to be purchased by the end of the year. You could always ask your contractor/supplier to break out the cost for the windows on a separate invoice for record keeping purposes. I would also suggest consulting your accountant with any tax related questions.
