I was about to pay for a few things at Union Market on 7th ave when I realized that the one apple I was buying was about to cost me $3.50. I asked cashier if that seemed a little expensive. She immediately said, “oh this stupid scale” and reweighed the apple bringing it’s cost to about a $1. I then had to ask her to reweigh the tomato which also came down in price significantly.
Beware. Not sure if its an actual scam but I can imagine a lot of people just paying without looking and paying over double in the process.
I’ve noticed twice at the Union Market on Court that the registers have rung up a different (higher) price than what is marked on the shelves or on the product. I think this is unfortunately common in grocery stores, and not just at Union Mkt — it has happened to me much more frequently at Met Foods on Smith (and Met managers are less pleasant about adjusting the cost).
They’re over-priced even at their legit price points – pretty rotten of them to cheat.
I never shop at Union Market, but perhaps someone who’s a regular customer should call 311 and get a DCA inspector to check their scales.
I used to go to the one on Union sometimes but they were crazy expensive and I got some less-than-fresh salads a couple of times. Maybe they were crazy expensive because of the scales?
thanks trago, I shop there regularly, I’m gonna have to check this out. Scales are regulated and supposed to be inspected
