Our new place has beautiful newly installed dark wood floors. What can we do to protect them during the move in? Any tips appreciated.

Happy New Year

  1. Third-ing Rosin paper. We use it constantly. It’s that roll of thick red-pink paper. You can get it at any home supply or building supply store. Also recommend using fresh blue painter’s tape to hold it down. The other tape will stick to your floor and take the finish off.

  2. Second watching those dollys with little tiny wheels – even when not cracked. Antiques deliverer with large piece – kinda heavy, but not all that heavy, wheeled a piece into my apartment on once – left a trail of dents in wood floor all the way down the hall – course it was old pine there, not old oak, which would likely stand up somewhat better, but still….Who knew? After that, I knew to make people hand carry stuff from the door only.

  3. rosin paper or Tyvek, both available at a good hardware store like Vinca said or at HD.

A quality mover will have something to lay down.

  4. It is all in the hands of your movers. Hire good hands and pay for Tony service. Tell them to slooow down. Throwing down boxes and furniture, even wrapped in packing blankets can tear through any paper you lay down. Also watch those darn furniture dollies, they are known for having cracked wheels that scraaape.

Laying maso is more for construction and renovation, who would do it, movers?

I liked Newman Movers. They really busted ass and listened to whatever we said. We had just a few family pieces but they knew, and handled it like a baby.
