We are thinking about putting the external unit under our deck and I was just wondering how much heat this will give off in the summer. Is this a stupid idea?

  1. The outdoor condenser blows in one direction, so you will want the line sets facing the house, which will determine the direction.

For instance Sanyo condensers blow left if you’re facing the end with the plumbing.

Depending on the size of the condenser 18-24-33K there will be heat blowing out, and some fan noise. I would say that there is quite a bit of luke warm being blown, as opposed to less volume but hotter.

Check the web sites for clearance on the various sides, which are different, especially the flat sides.

Also check the distance and elevation on the line sets. Don’t forget that every turn or fitting in the line set subtratcs from the allowed length.

  2. My ductless condenser unit is under a deck. No problems with heat. The problem is that my central vac’s exhaust port is also under that deck and the condenser sucks in the fine dust that the vac spits when both are operating simultaneously. A wash-down with a hose every few months fixes that.
