I was informed that in order for our project to start, we need to do something called TR-2 / TR-3 test since we are going to be inserting a new concrete slab into the ground to support a new balcony/roof.

Thanks for the advice! I was told that NY City is now mandating that it be done for any project as of 2010. I would love to save the money but want to make sure that we are doing this within the law. How can I contact you
Just how much work are you doing? You can waive that requirement if you’re using a slightly higher than standard strength concrete and have less than 50 cubic yards, which is an awful lot for most jobs discussed here. Your engineer will be able to help you determine if you can meet the requirements. If so, you can save thousand$.

It needs to be done through a licensed concrete testing lab. In general, the concrete companies have a lab that they work with so you can try to contact your concrete supplier directly.
