I live in a West Midwood Victorian and have a gas fireplace with a beautiful copper hood that works. There is no flue (that I know of)and no way to open/close a flue. The flames come from a small tube with a series of holes that are in front of a copper plate. I would like to replace this set up with something less odd — more like a real fireplace. Any suggestions on who can do this type of work?

Thx daveinbedsty. Any idea what type of contractor does the installation?
You can get some nice ones at http://www.gascoals.net
