Courtesy of the mid-September tornado, one of our beautiful Marvin windows was destroyed. We contacted the company that installed it (before we owned the house) and they informed us that the window has been discontinued, and the one that has replaced it, looks a bit different. Not wanting to replace all the perfectly functioning windows on our parlor floor, I’m looking into repairing the window. Anyone have experience with this? I found a company called Window-Fix who is coming to give me an estimate. Has anyone used them? Are there any other window repair companies that someone can recommend?

  1. they came and measured on Saturday. Monday they came and took the old glass out, put in the new glass, and I now have clear windows.

    I am a happy camper.

  2. Thanks for all the info. The tree that came into our house not only smashed the glass, but destroyed some parts of the rest of the wood window as well. But, I’m still hoping it might be fixable.
Stargazer – would love to hear your experience with Window-Fix.
DaveInBedStuy, would be great to get your recommendation too – thanks.

  3. I am actually using window fix this weekend, as I have 3 sashes that have the condensation in between the glass. I will let you know how they are.

These windows have been fixed once before 10 years ago, hence the 10 yr guarantee.
I hate double pane windows, they give me nothing but grief. I would rather the wood windows with storm windows, as they never get the condensation problem, which in turn make you have to replace the costly glass.
    UGh !!

  4. It was Supreme Glass in Manhattan (212-247-3967) who did mine but the doorman says they are now using a place in brooklyn called Vila Windows (347-413-5066).

Again, I’m assuming these are not single pane windows which you can get repaired at any glass store.

  5. I completely forgot their name but the glass place on 5th ave in the slope – a block or 2 before flatbush could repair. I had ’em in to price new windows for me and the guy said “You don’t need new one’s. Just repair these.” Struck me as honest folks.

  6. I actually need to get one fixed as well. I’m assuming you are referring to insulated glass thermal panes.

I had this dne in my condo and I’ll be walking by there later today to get the name of who did it…it was about $300 or so.

I’ll publish it later….thanks for reminding me.
