For some reason the pilot light on my water heater keeps going out. It happened sometime late Wed night or early Thu morning. Last night when I got home from work I went down to check and and noticed it was out. I managed to relight it no problem. Then this morning I didn’t have hot water again. I went back down and had to relight it again. This time I took about 4 tries before it stayed lit. Any plumber here have any idea what may be causing it to keep going out? It’s relatively new (about 1 year old). I’m not sure if there’s a problem with the gas line going into the water heater or the water heater itself. I’m going to assume it’s the water heater since none of my neighbors in my building seem to be having a problem with theirs.

  1. If it’s about a year old, just be careful of trying to replace the thermocouple….it may be a sealed unit with the spark ignition…special parts.

  2. I’m guessing it’s what eman said. There’s no drafts down in the basement and all the other water heaters seem to be working fine so I’ll have to get someone out to fix it. Any idea how much it costs to replace the thermocouple?

  3. It’s been windy past two days… do you have any cracks or drafts going into the room? It happens to me when I leave the basement door open
