I had posted a few weeks back about water leaks around our windows during the crazy hailstorm we had.
I called a contractor to come lok at the windows and brickwork, and got a fair estimate for setting up scaffolding on the back of the house, and sealing the visible cracks around the lintels, and the sides of the window, where it loos like the leaks were coming in.
We are planning on getting our windows replaced soon, so my question is this:
Should we pay for this sealing work ahead of the windows being installed, or will the window installers be able to this type of sealing themselves, or is that just outside of the work they do? we were planning on using Windows We Are for windows…
Thanks!
It is likely that the flashing over the lintels is shot or installed incorrectly. You might want to do a probe or two and see what the condition is.
I would do any brickwork and sealing first – if you do it after any pointing materials and sealers tend to get all over your new windows especially the screens and it is difficult to clean -You might want to touch base with the window folks about it – they may feel differently or include it in their installation
