i am thinking of renting a parlor floor space that is not particularly renovated – typical 2 larger rooms with 10.5 high ceilings. I am trying to figure out how to divide one of the rooms into 2 bedrooms in an inventive / aesthetic but economical way. Front space has two windows, back space has the kitchen area, glass doors divide the two areas. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions or examples to share

  1. (and, off topic, but that’s crazy tiny. just move to a different ‘hood and get a real 2br! without all that reno cost, you’d probably be able to get a decent pad…)

  2. Assuming the stair hall is in the front, the rear is probably wider and would therefore lend itself to being divided in half for the bedrooms. Leave the rest of the space open with the kitchen and bath in the middle, separating the front, which becomes living and dining, from the back.

Depending upon the configuration, you may or may not have to do much plumbing for the new kitchen and bath.

Otherwise, the only other option is to divide the front into two probably very narrow rooms, leave the kitchen where it is, and put in the bathroom close to the bedrooms, assuming you can vent the bathroom mechanically as it wouldn’t have a window, which is not uncommon in these houses.
