Hi,

Can anyone recommend a lawyer you used for a standard contract/closing process in Brooklyn? It would specifically be for a multi-family brownstone. Also, what’s the typical fee?

Thanks!

  1. I just bought a place in stuy heights with Steve Rubel. Nice guy, very reasonable rate.

  2. I’ll second the recommendation for Kurt Roth.

Fees can range all over the place depending on the complexity of the deal. I have no idea what the baseline for a multi-family purchase should be, but I think his rates are generally competitive.

I will say that, considering the work he did, and the expertise he brought to bear for us, we would have paid twice what he billed (alright maybe 1.5 times) and still thought it a bargain.

  3. I used Rip Westmoreland, based in Park Slope, and loved him. 718 783 6967. Can’t speak to the price of a multi-story brownstone, ours was just one unit. Funny thing is that Dick Dickler, of Dickler & Roth who Edison mentioned, was the bank attorney for our closing (because he’s friends with Rip, who got him on as the bank attorney to make the closing go more smoothly).
