What is the best way to repair or replace a lead toilet bend. It has a visible hole which is leaking. I slammed some epoxy over it because it leaks every time the neighbor flushes.
We have a good shot at the cast iron hub, then it gets buried in floor joists and supports. What are the best materials to use?
Is $650 a good price to fix this, there will be a couple of days of plumbing work that will happen in the same building. Would this price be different if it was the only thing she was coming to?

  1. when the lead bend is replaced, the hub /bend connection will be repacked with lead wool and molten lead….a replacement lead bend is ideal, since it can make the tightest curves

  2. Ceiling has been removed from underneath. What materials should the new bend be made of. Is lead still an option. BTW the epoxy patch in the lead seems to be holding!

By the way as I continue to shine the flashlight I see yuchy stuff around the cast iron hub. Can this stuff be repacked, or should it be repacked too.

  3. two hundred bucks to open the floor or ceiling, cut out lead bend, replace, lead wipe a new new brass flange, patch floor or ceiling, reset toilet..that is a crock

  4. cut out the old lead bend and replace it with a new one…it is hard to switch to cast iron, since the dimensions in a lead bend are so tight..if you have access from below, great, otherwise you have to bust up the floor..prices are hard to determine without seeing site conditions, but 650 does not seem unreasonable including wiping in a new brass flange
