Hi, I know this post is a little outdated but I was hoping someone could help me. Does anyone know how accurate is the information that after 3rd time you don’t let the DOB inspector in, after someone has filled a complaint on you for work with no permit and other B category things, they will leave the case as unresolved and give up? I live in Staten island, are the laws any different? Thank you in advance.

  1. Good luck and welcome to SI! I get at least 2 calls a month from people who are selling and need to file for ilegal construction before they can get the prospective buyer to close. People are very astute nowadays and know how to get a deal. Most end up having to put the money in escrow to close out the project just so they can get the the deal moving again.

  2. Seems there’s a real need for some English lessons around here.

I would also say that the majority of houses in Brooklyn have had work done without a permit. Don’t know why this will be a problem at sale. Most buyers understand this.

  3. before you start call DOB and complain. they will show up and dismiss the complain. repeat it until they will stop reacting.

start your “work without permit” after this.cheap ghd straighteners

  4. forgot to add: if you have nosy neibough who is about call 411 – climb into his back yard and cut phone lines so he cannot call DOB.

  5. interesting. So here what you need to do to do things without permit:

before you start call DOB and complain. they will show up and dismiss the complain. repeat it until they will stop reacting.

start your “work without permit” after this.

oh. you also can put a wrong building number on the front door. this will confuse them even more.

  6. Generally, but if the person called once, they will keep calling and then DOB will keep coming out. I am an architect, when we bought our house, we started with things that did not require a permit. My wonderfull neighbor called, I showed DOB around and it was closed out. After he called three times without a them writing a violation, they ignored his calls. Why don’t you just get a permit? When you go to sell you may/will have a problem.
