I recently purchased a cast iron sink almost exactly the same as the one shown in the picture for my laundry room. However, I’m
having a hard time figuring out how to support it. Would a base cabinet work? I don’t think so. I was thinking about building a 2×4 frame to support it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Try a google search on obscure salvage items such as “japanned gas light fixture” and “1890s wall hung sink.” this should bring you to the main salvage sites, where you can find legs. Also try the actual stores nearby.

  2. MLKleschick,

thanks i didn’t think of that at all. that’s a great idea. i’ll have to price out my options first.

fwiw, i bought mine on craigslist for $75. only thing was that i had to drive to jersey to get it. absolutely great deal as I didn’t want one of those plastic ones. my parents have one and you can literally push the sidewalls in and out.

i’ll still post pics later on tonight.

  3. We have a cast iron sink in the basement. Not sure how it is attached to the wall but the front is supported by what looks like (now badly deteriorated) chrome pipes put together with standard fittings. They sit partway hidden by a lip that is created by the rollover of the front edge. Chrome pipes or black iron with standard fittings may be a “diy” version of the iron frame or salvaged legs that were previously suggested.
p.s. I’m jealous! I just have an ugly plastic washtub in the laundry room!

  4. Depending on your aesthetics, you can try industrial workbench legs. They’re available at adjustable heights, and you can always build a cabinet around them.

  5. are the files from Brownstoners own renovation still on here? if so, he put a heavy sink up and I think he ended up using legs. can’t remember the details anymore but I remember it was a problem
