Handmade Field Tile Source (aka Heath Knockoffs)?
I’m looking to redo a bathroom and I love Heath field tiles –love the variation and depth of color in the glazes. Don’t love the price ($29/sq ft). thanks, both of you!
Handmade tile has a look that is completely different than machine-made tile. There may be some alternatives within the handmade tile community, but generally both Heath and Fireclay are among the least expensive due to the size of their companies and the huge amount of tile they produce.
You could use a large white or natural-colored tile for the majority of the space and use this gorgeous Heath blue-gray tile for a wide accent stripe, maybe 24″ tall. If you keep with the straight stack pattern for both, you’d maintain the clean, modern design. It is a great look. Good luck!
You should look at Artistic Tile and Nemo’s-while neither is cheap-they may have the type of tile you are looking for and they have very large selections. When you pick a high quality product and a unique look, sometimes there is nothing comparable that is cheaper. Perhaps you could try to find a way to use less of it-by focusing on the wet areas only for the tile and doing painted walls surrounding the tile.
