Craigslist is no longer usable. The site is saturated with scammers and the quality of listings are terrible.

Besides individual RE companies, is there another place to peruse rental listings in Brooklyn? I also heard of “secret” brooklyn housing email lists floating around…?

PS. If anyone wants to rent a studio in a good area to an amazing tenant, I’m here. 🙂

  1. We’re working on building our Brooklyn listings (we admittedly have a way to go), but you might want to check out http://www.UrbanEdgeNY.com to see if we have what you’re looking for. It’s a free site, owners and property manager listings only (no brokers). Also, any landlords that wish to post their listings are welcome to contact us and we’ll be glad to help you.

  2. I’ve gotten three Brooklyn apartments through word of mouth — walking around, talking to neighbors.

There’s a for rent sign on the corner of Classon and Greene and a decent number of notices on the bulletin boards at Choice and Bittersweet.

I’m surprised CL is still so bad. Last time I tried to post something (furniture, not real estate) I had to provide a phone number which they confirmed with an automated call. I figured that would help them chip away at the scammers. Guess not.

  3. I used CL in August to rent an apt. Found 4 people interested in it w/in hours & all were “qualified” in terms of credit ratings, etc.
It’s worth the effort of plowing through the dross.
