I am looking to install one in our new kitchen (with a separate tap) but am overwhelmed by what’s out there…any suggestions?

  1. We have used a Franke Triflow which integrates with the main tap, and a separate Kohler system. I’d say go with something like Kohler if your sink is big enough, it’s nice to be able to grab a glass of water while someone is filling the pasta pot or washing dishes. Otherwise the Franke is good.

  2. We’re in Brooklyn (and I didn’t know our water came from the Catskills – thanks!). Here’s a follow up: do I have to get a specific sink tap for whatever water filtration system I choose? There’s a tap I found that’s integrated on the regular tap but the faucet company (KWC) no longer makes filtration systems…I am hoping to use a different filtration system with it instead. I know doing so will void the warranty, but does that really matter?

  3. We have had an Aquasana for a year and it is terrific. We also use an Aquasana shower filter and it makes a huge difference. The water smells and looks different – so much better. Reasonably priced.

I am sure the water in NYC is pretty good but once it gets through the awful pipes I think a water filter is needed.

  4. first off all you need to figure out what do you want to filter. Brooklyn water comes from Catskills and one of the best tap water in country. So probably all you need is a lead filter (we still use lead pipes) and a particle filter (just in case).

But if you live somewhere in India, you need to run your water though any imaginable filter preferably twice.
